A pair Japanese Kutani burnt orange geisha ware end of river design porcelain cups and saucers. Wonderful egg shell porcelain. The decoration is bright and highlighted with gilt. Dating these pieces to mid 20th Century, they are a very attractive addition to any Japanese collection. The backstamp on an orange background, is a tradition started in the Meiji period around 1900. The marks read Ku Ta Ni or Nine Valleys, a region in Kaga, Japan.
The cups measure 9cm in diameter and 4.5cm tall and the saucers have a diameter of 12.5cm or 5". All of the pieces are in excellent condition, with very little pattern wear. They appear to have been displayed, rather than used.
