An unusual pair of Japanese geisha ware cups and saucers, originating from Kutani area. Unusual due to the colour of the background. Most examples of this type of ware have the burnt orange border and back-ground. I like the blue, as you can see the decoration is mostly handpainted and gilt trimmed, the cups are shaped and have a scalloped top edge, the saucers also have an indented rim.
The saucers measure 14cm, the cups are 5cm tall with a diameter of 9.5cm.
