Wonderful Stoneware pot in the shape of a whelk shell, made by Lovatts of Langley Mill Pottery in Derbyshire, the company was originally formed in the 1860's and finally closed in 1982. During that time there were a number of name changes. Lovatts became reknown for their stoneware, producing hot water bottles and feet warmers.
This shell made in stonware has a glazed pink interior, the edge rims are a little rough, I am not certain if that is due to wear or included for effect. Dating pre 1900's this is a lovely item and serves as a great reminder of trips to the sea side.:)
It measures 12.5cm long with a height of about 6cm.
