A wonderful Japanese Satsuma handpainted eartheware urn. Finshed in this deep red with beautiful moriage decoration, surrounding the central painting of geisha and a warrior. The rear of the urn has a beautiful blue flower on. There are no base markings common on a piece of this age, c1850. The crazing is usual on Satsuma Ware for those not familiar with its characteristics. The form is flambouyant, with ornate scroll handles. There is some wear to the pattern, effecting the gilding more so. This does not effect the overall appearance.
The urn measures 18.5cm tall with a maximum diameter of about 8cm. A highly decorative object and a nice item for any Japanese Ceramic collector.
