Description

A lovely Japanese Reed handled condiment or conserve pot, produced probably in the Kyoto area of Japan, in a moriage style made famous in the Satsuma region, the decorative style has raised dots and lines, to give the pattern in relief. The background of the pot is in a deep chocolate brown, which, helps to excentuate the gilt and vibrant colours used to produce the decoration of an Immortal.

The backstamp says Foreign, this stamp was used extensively on export pieces especialy for the 10-20 years post World War II. When it was believed that export would be effected if Japan was written on the base (other countries were also effected China, Germany, Eastern Europe and others).

The pot is in excellent condition and measures 9.5cm tall to top of finial by 9cm in diameter.
