A beautiful Japanese Imari display plate, handpainted rather than transfer printed. Dating to probably mid 20th Century. Six panelled dcoration with floral and bird panels. The back is set with a hanging wire, three artemisia leaf marks. This mark was originally used in the Kiangxi period 1662-1722. Taken from the Chinese symbolism of 8 precious things, the artemisia leaf is often used for good fortune. Although I do not recognise the backstamp, the platedecorationis clearly Imari.
It measures 21.25cm in diameter, it is in excellent condition, with only minor pattern wear and a couple of slight glaze imperfections.
