A really beautiful Japanese Lithopane handpainted Geisha ware tea set. Although there is no teapot, all the other pieces are here, 6 cups, 6 saucers, 6 sides, a milk jug and lidded sugar bowl. Made between 1930-1958 in Hayashi in the Kutani region of Japan, these Lithopane sets became increasingly popular. Produced in high quality porcelain, with each piece handpainted.
This set is in good condition, some bright spark has obviously run it through a dishwasher as some point and created a dullness to the black paint. There is some pattern wear, especially to the gilt painting on black, each of the pieces is intact with no chips, cracks or repairs.
The measurements are:-
Cups 9.5cm in diameter and height 5.5cm. The saucers 14cm in diameter. The sides 18cm in diameter. The milk jug 9.5cm high and 12cm handle to spout. The lidded sugar bowl 13cm tall to top of finial and 11cm in diameter. Please be aware that this set weighs considerably more than 3Kg in weight, therefore buyers outside the UK, please ask prior to bidding in relation to shipping costs.
