A stunning handpainted cup and saucer in purple and gilt, the subject matter is a peacock and foliate design. As shown, there is some damage, it appears to be impact damage and has caused some small paint loss on the outside, although, the cup has not been apart (the hairline is internal and does not go to the rim). Fortunately, it is a really busy pattern and the damage does not detract from the look. The signature on the base appears to be MJB or possibly an R. The only MJB I know of is Blakeney Pottery in Stoke, they started in 1969, however, I have never seen a written signature on their work.
The cup measures 6.5cm tall with a top diameter of 6.75cm the saucer is 14cm in diameter.
