I believe this wonderful piece was once a Ceramic trophy tankard. The finish is gorgeous, it is in a deep brown glaze, with almost wood graining picked out in a deep brown glaze, with silver gilding in dotted relief bands running around the outside. Finished with two scrolled spectacular handles in black. There is a shield on the front, which clearly has had some wear, so no name...:(
Anyway onto the identify stuff. Made by Capper & Wood a Longton, Staffs based Company in production from 1895-1904, we are fortunate to have a Rd No. so we can be more specific about March 1896. It has worn beautifully, with no damage. It measures 11.5cm tall with a body diameter of 10.5cm, so quite substantial. It is a true antique and very beautiful to boot.
