I have been careful not to describe this item using either Limoges or Sevres. That is because I am unable to find the backstamp of this piece in any of my reference books and it is not an area I know a huge amount about. So I will describe the box and people can make their own mind up.
Firstly it is beautifully handpainted with gilt laurel leaves as trim and pink cabbage roses, on a turquoise background. The clasp is shell shaped, which is a common clasp design for Limoges certainly. The lid is well fitted, and closes with a nice clunk and it is aligned nicely. The cement around the top and bottom metal surrounds has shrinkage cracks, this however, is the only fault, as the box is absolutely lovely, the porcelain is a beautiful translucent white. I know it has some age to it, as I knew the previous owner. I have priced it as a lovely item in its own right, it will become evident, if it is something more.
It measures 3.5cm tall, 7cm wide by 8cm deep.
